Expert Group On Eu Trade Agreements

These economists discuss the economic impact of current trade policy issues, present their own analyses and documents, and share knowledge. Members meet twice a year for one-day meetings. EU legislation on the processing of personal data for law enforcement purposes is not covered by the EEA agreement, but may apply to some or all EEA-EFTA states under other agreements with the EU. The European Trade Economist Network (TEN) is an informal network of trade economists in EU governments, permanent representatives and the European Commission. Trade defence instruments, such as safeguards, anti-dumping and countervailing measures, should be used to counter the predatory behaviour of certain EU trading partners at certain times and times. We firmly believe that these instruments should only be used for this purpose, and we are therefore clearly opposed to unnecessary restrictions on trade in products or raw materials that do not fall within this scope. Recently, the focus has been on the free trade agreement between the EU and Indonesia, as palm oil has been controversially included in the agreement. In 2017, 51% of the palm oil used in Europe was burned in our cars. The environmental impact of palm oil is devastating. For the climate, many palm oil biodiesel is three times worse than fossil oil. EU lawmakers recognised the problem and agreed on 13 June 2018 to reform the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) by ending the binding target for food-based biofuels and agreeing to cap organic biofuels, such as palm oil and soybean oil, as renewable transport fuels by 2030 at the latest , then eliminate them. The reform of RED II, which has been democratically approved, must be respected and the KmUM trade must in no way undermine the EU`s internal renewable energy policy.

Negotiations and provisions on free trade agreements should never be used to hinder the development and implementation of EU domestic policy. Europe is facing a serious traffic revolution, which in part means that traditional vehicles are being replaced by electric vehicles, resulting in an increase in the battery of electric vehicles. Demand for raw materials for batteries such as lithium, cobalt and nickel has increased due to shortages in the EU.
